Overview
Curepipe, in the centre of Mauritius, is the second most important town of the island and well known for its shopping; jewellery and 17th – 18th century ship-model. After shopping proceed to Trou aux Cerfs, a short drive away, and gaze at a dormant crater located at 650 metres above sea level Continue to the west and embark on a tantalizing journey of wine tasting at the Takamaka Boutique Winery, the only winery in the world dedicated exclusively to lychee wine. Drive to the Black River Gorges viewpoint, which is part of the Machabee-Bel Ombre nature reserve, home to Mauritius’ endangered species. Ideally located in a fertile valley, lies the Rhumerie de Chamarel, where you will enjoy a succulent lunch, followed by a visit and rum tasting at the rum distilling plant. The final stop will be at Chamarel waterfalls and the 7 Coloured Earth Geopark, before making your way back.
